How to leave a Google review.

REVIEWS · 4 MIN READ · UPDATED 2026

Leaving a Google review takes about 60 seconds. Here's exactly how to do it on your phone or computer — and, if you run a business, how to make it easy for your own customers to do the same.

How to leave a review on your phone

The fastest way is from the Google Maps app or a Google search:

  1. Open the Google Maps app, or search the business name in Google.
  2. Tap the business to open its profile, then tap Reviews.
  3. Tap the star rating (1–5 stars) you want to give.
  4. Write a short note about your experience and tap Post.

You'll need to be signed in to a Google account. You can add photos, and you can edit or delete your review later from your profile.

How to leave a review on a computer

  1. Search the business name on Google or Google Maps in your browser.
  2. In the business panel on the right (or the Maps listing), click Write a review.
  3. Choose your star rating, write your review, and click Post.

A helpful review names what you came in for, who helped you, and the result. Specific reviews are more useful to other shoppers — and they help the business rank in local search.

Why Google reviews matter so much

Reviews do two jobs at once. For shoppers, they're trust — most people read reviews before choosing a local business, and a rating that climbs from 3.0 to 4.0 stars can lift conversion by roughly 44% (SOCi). For the business, review volume and recency are a real local-SEO ranking signal — they help a business appear in Google's local "map pack," the three results that capture the majority of "near me" clicks.

If you run a business: how to get more reviews

The single biggest reason businesses don't have enough reviews is that they don't ask consistently. The fix is a simple, compliant system:

  • Ask at the peak moment — right after a completed job or a positive interaction, by text or email.
  • Send a one-tap link — never make a customer search for your profile.
  • Never gate or buy reviews — filtering for only-positive reviews or paying for them violates Google's policies and can get your profile penalized.
  • Respond to every review — thank the positive ones and address the negative ones calmly.

This is exactly what Syntra's Review Agent does automatically — it requests reviews at the perfect moment, routes happy customers to Google, and drafts on-brand responses for your approval. It's part of Syntra Capture.

How can a business get more Google reviews?
